Motorsailor Plans
We have decided to separate all of Sam’s motorsailor concepts from the other sailboat designs. This category of boat is very special to all of us boaters in the Northwest. A lot of the year we experience rain and during the summer sometimes we are a little short on wind for sailing. The perfect solution – a motorsailor. Sam’s concept drawings start with an Oysta 25 and complete a large size sweep by ending with the Oysta 62. All of these boats are perfect as Pilot House motor cruisers or as sailboats with moderate rigs. Sometimes you’ll just want the silence of sailing and other times you’ll be glad to have the engine assist for a true motor sailing experience. These designs from Sam’s drawing board remind him so much of his Irish and Norwegian heritage as these types of boats have graced the North Sea for well over a hundred years. Unlike the construction requirements of those times, the stitch and glue construction of our designs bring this type of boat gracefully into the 21st century for a very special and easily maintained boating experience.
Plans come in two basic flavors: Study Plans and Construction Plans. Study plans are inexpensive and give you the opportunity to examine a detailed scale drawing of the design. Construction plans are vastly detailed and can lead you through the entire build of a boat. The price varies with the complexity of the design. There are boats that exist as study plans only, and the reason is that the development of a full set of construction plans can take hundreds of hours. If you see a boat that you would like to see developed, be sure to talk to Sam.
